THE JOHN DEWEY SOCIETY was established to foster the study of democratic education in its relationship with the culture, and to promote thorough and systematic inquiry and investigation in the social foundations of education. In keeping with these purposes, the Society prepares and publishes studies, each of which attempts to study some crucial problem, or set of problems, in the relationship of American education to American life. It also publishes the annual John Dewey Lecture and books dealing with problems in educational theory. It cooperates in the publication of the journal Educational Theory. Membership is open to all who wish to further its purposes and participate in its work.
THE PHILOSOPHY OF EDUCATION SOCIETY was organized for the following purposes: (1) to promote the philosophic treatment of the problems of education, (2) to promote the clarification of agreements and differences between the several philosophies of education, (3) to advance and improve teaching in the philosophy of education, (4) to cultivate fruitful relationships between workers in general philosophy and workers in philosophy of education, and (5) to encourage promising young students in the field of philosophy of education. Membership dues include a subscription to Educational Theory. Membership is open to all who have demonstrated an interest in philosophy of education.
